The Itaiaia National Park is located between the states of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Minas Gerais. It's most famous landmark, the Agulhas Negras, is the highest peak in the state 9143 ft (2787 m).

Due to it's altitude, Itatiaia is considered Rio's "highlands", the landscape and wildlife are very different from other areas with more dense vegetation. It's beautifull settings and numerous rock formation make of Itatiaia one of the most exotic climbing areas in the country.
