Morro da Urca is small peak standing west from Pão
de Açucar. It is the first stop of the cable car that takes most
tourists up to the Sugar Loaf.
Urca is also a traditional and exclusive residential neighborhood
in Rio. It is one of the calmest and safest areas in the city, its architecture
consists of mainly small residential buildings and houses.
Together with the Sugar Loaf, it is the most traditional
climbing area in Brazil. There are more than 200 routes in Urca, among
boulders, top-ropes, easy and hard multi-pitches and aid routes of up
to A4.
A classical route is called Ácidos (The Acids),
near Morro da Babilônia. It has an obvious roof with the classic
Nosferatus route graded 5.12c
and other 24 single pitch lines from 5.8
to 5.12c.
Walkin inside a beach park from Praia Vermelha, ther are
a few seacliffs and rock formations like Pedra do Urubu, with crimpy face-climbing
sport routes from 5.10a to 5.13c,
and Southern Comfort a 5.13c
sport route opened opened bay Wolfgang Güllich's during his visit
in 1987.
